Anthropic backers reportedly hold multibillion-dollar stakes ahead of proposed IPO

Several Anthropic investors reportedly hold stakes valued at billions of dollars as the Claude developer prepares for a possible public offering. The estimates reflect private share valuations, rather than proceeds from completed stock sales.

Iconiq reportedly invested more than $6 billion and holds shares valued at approximately $17 billion. Menlo Ventures' holding is reportedly valued at $14 billion, while Spark Capital's stake is said to be worth $7 billion following an initial $75 million investment in 2023. These figures have not been confirmed by Anthropic.

The estimates use Anthropic's latest private financing as their benchmark. In May, the company announced a $65 billion fundraising that valued the business at $965 billion after the investment. Anthropic said the money would support research, computing capacity and products as demand for Claude expanded.

Anthropic announced in June that it had confidentially submitted IPO registration documents to US securities regulators. At that time, it had not determined the offering's share count or price and said a listing depended on regulatory review, market conditions and other factors. The reported investor holdings therefore do not establish what those stakes would fetch in a public offering.
