Eric Schmidt’s reported Anthropic stake could reach $20 billion at IPO
Eric Schmidt reportedly owns about 1% of Anthropic, a holding that could be worth $20 billion if an IPO values the company at $2 trillion.
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt reportedly holds roughly 1% of Anthropic. That stake could carry a value of about $20 billion if the company achieves a $2 trillion valuation in its anticipated initial public offering.
People familiar with the investment say Schmidt put tens of millions of dollars into Anthropic’s initial funding round. Schmidt and Anthropic reportedly declined to comment on the current holding, and any subsequent share sales remain unclear.
Anthropic’s own announcement confirms that Schmidt participated in its $124 million Series A financing in May 2021. Jaan Tallinn led that round, which funded research and early systems development. The announcement did not disclose Schmidt’s individual contribution or ownership percentage.
The potential $20 billion figure is a conditional estimate of the shares’ value, not proceeds from a completed sale. The eventual amount would depend on the offering’s valuation and Schmidt’s ownership after any dilution.
