Anthropic reportedly faces cloud capacity limits as infrastructure costs rise

Anthropic reportedly needs more computing capacity than major cloud partners will supply as it prepares for a possible November stock listing.

Anthropic

Anthropic reportedly faces constraints securing additional computing power from Amazon Web Services, Google and Microsoft. A draft IPO prospectus is said to describe requests exceeding what those partners would supply, alongside growing competition between Anthropic and its providers. These claims remain unconfirmed publicly by the company.

The company's spending on computing capacity and infrastructure reportedly approached $9 billion during the first half of 2026. That compares with a reported $2.3 billion a year earlier. The figures describe spending already incurred, rather than the much larger commitments attached to future capacity.

Anthropic has publicly confirmed substantial expansion agreements. In April, it announced an AWS commitment exceeding $100 billion over a decade, covering as much as five gigawatts of additional capacity. It also announced a separate Google and Broadcom agreement for several gigawatts expected to begin coming online in 2027.,

Anthropic is reportedly targeting a November IPO, but that timetable remains unconfirmed. Its announced capacity additions extend into future years and do not establish that its immediate computing needs have been met.,
