Anthropic opens Claude Duet preview for AI tasks that run in the background

Anthropic introduced Claude Duet, an assistant that monitors connected apps and handles tasks, with initial access through a waitlist for US Pro and Max subscribers.

OpenAI

Anthropic introduced Claude Duet on October 21 as an AI assistant that can initiate updates and continue assignments while users are away. The research preview starts with a waitlist for US subscribers to its Pro and Max plans.

Duet uses Opus 5.5 and runs on the web and in separate Android and iOS apps. Anthropic said it can deliver morning summaries, check connected services and handle work such as meeting scheduling and dashboard creation. Preview usage counts toward existing subscription limits.

The product targets professionals and small businesses managing work across several services. Its remote computer and browser let tasks continue when a user's devices are off. Users must approve consequential actions, including outgoing messages, purchases, document signing and deletions.

Anthropic plans to refine when Duet sends alerts using feedback from preview participants. The company also said access to website credentials through 1Password is planned, subject to user permission.
