Benefit Street Partners uses Codex to speed loan analysis and follow-ups

Benefit Street Partners says tools developed with Codex help compare loan values and review credit agreements while keeping investment decisions with people.

Benefit Street Partners is using Codex to help build internal tools and respond more quickly to investment questions. In an October 16 customer account, OpenAI said portfolio manager Anant Kumar now handles some committee follow-ups within a day.

Kumar's valuation tracker compares loan pricing across business development companies using public SEC filings. He used Codex to review its code and estimated 10 to 12 development hours, including subsequent improvements. A separate agreement analyzer produces an initial assessment in roughly 20 minutes, with human review taking at least another hour.

The tools support underwriting work that involves lengthy documents and repeated committee questions. Kumar said people retain responsibility for investment decisions. The firm's stated aim is deeper analysis within existing deal schedules.

Benefit Street Partners is now connecting information across transactions. Over time, it hopes to monitor developments affecting loans continuously and assess their portfolio implications.
