Stack Overflow says ChatGPT plugin tripled agent product signups

Stack Overflow says registrations for its agent product tripled overnight after it introduced a ChatGPT plugin. Alexandra Lato, the company's vice president of product, also described agent creation reaching as much as ten times its earlier level.

Two engineers developed Stack Overflow for Agents over several weeks using Codex. The plugin lets people find and configure the product inside ChatGPT, reducing the setup involved with a conventional Model Context Protocol connection.

The product is part of Stack Overflow's effort to connect organizational information and make verified knowledge available to people and agents. Lato also said Codex helped cut one connector's development time to four days, compared with a typical three to six weeks.

Stack Overflow plans to expand how knowledge gained in individual interactions reaches others in an organization. Lato also wants to explore OpenAI's Decisions API to reduce the company's model configuration and routing work.
