Merz urges German businesses to adopt AI as Nvidia signs cooperation agreement
Germany and Nvidia signed a declaration to advance industrial AI as Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged businesses to make greater use of their data.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged businesses to adopt artificial intelligence at an investment summit in Berlin on October 19. Speaking alongside Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, he presented the technology as a way to modernize German industry and support economic growth.
Nvidia said it signed a declaration of intent with Merz and two German federal ministries earlier that day. The agreement outlines work on a joint initiative to develop AI models for applications involving machines and the physical world.
Merz emphasized the manufacturing knowledge and data held by Germany's small and midsize businesses. Huang said AI could strengthen that expertise, building on Nvidia's existing work with German companies in automotive development and manufacturing simulation.
The planned cooperation will expand Nvidia's relationship with the government and Germany's Industry 4.0 network. Its stated goal is broader industrial adoption of AI, with the declaration establishing the direction for further joint work.
