OpenAI makes Decisions API generally available for faster app decisions
OpenAI released its Decisions API broadly, adding voice integration, expanded inputs and caching for applications that need quick, narrowly defined answers.
OpenAI made its Decisions API generally available on October 22. Powered by GPT-6 Luna, it handles narrowly defined questions for applications and automated agents. OpenAI says it can deliver decisions up to ten times faster than running Luna through its Responses API.
Developers supply context and define the possible answers. The service returns a probability, a selected option or a score. Updates include support for JSON data, images within question instructions and a maximum of 400 questions in each request, double the earlier limit.
The release builds on a public beta focused on tasks such as classifying information and determining an application's next action. A new GPT-Live connection supports decisions during voice conversations. Caching also lets applications reuse context across requests.
OpenAI lists input pricing at $0.10 for each million tokens, with cached inputs priced at $0.01 for the same volume. It does not charge for output tokens. Developers can now use the dedicated endpoint or test questions in its Playground before integrating the service.
