OpenAI reportedly lowers fundraising valuation target to $1.25 trillion

OpenAI reportedly reduced its valuation target from $1.4 trillion to $1.25 trillion while pursuing up to $30 billion in new funding.

OpenAI is reportedly seeking a $1.25 trillion valuation in financing talks, below the $1.4 trillion figure previously pitched to investors. The ChatGPT developer is said to be pursuing as much as $30 billion in additional capital.

The proposed valuation would measure OpenAI’s worth before the new investment. It represents a $150 billion reduction from the earlier asking price, rather than a decline in the value established by a completed transaction.

OpenAI’s last announced financing closed in March, securing capital commitments totaling $122 billion and valuing the business at $852 billion after that investment. OpenAI named Amazon, Nvidia and SoftBank as major backers, with Microsoft also participating. The company said the funding would support its expansion, including computing infrastructure and AI products.

The latest negotiations remain unconfirmed by OpenAI, which declined to comment. Terms could still change before an agreement is reached.
