OpenAI acquires Orchestra Bio to expand drug development tools

OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio and plans to combine its drug development operations platform with its Rosalind research tools.

OpenAI

OpenAI announced on October 20 that it had acquired Orchestra Bio, which develops software for coordinating drug development. Orchestra's employees and technology will join OpenAI's Rosalind effort for life sciences research. The announcement did not disclose a purchase price.

Orchestra uses AI agents to monitor studies, track progress and help program leaders assess problems. OpenAI described how a manufacturing failure can disrupt a clinical trial, with agents identifying affected schedules and comparing possible responses. People remain responsible for deciding how to proceed.

The acquisition adds operational coordination to Rosalind's scientific capabilities. GPT-Rosalind supports reasoning about biology and chemistry, while Rosalind Workbench connects research tools and data for analyzing findings and planning experiments.

OpenAI said the combined effort would develop agents that connect research findings with subsequent studies and decisions. The announcement did not specify when those integrated capabilities would become available.
