OpenAI says restaurant franchisee cut cash reconciliation time by 94%

A New Mexico restaurant operator shortened cash reconciliation and menu pricing work with ChatGPT Work, while testing scheduling changes to improve cash flow.

OpenAI said on October 20 that restaurant franchisee Ted Taylor reduced monthly cash reconciliation time by 94% using ChatGPT Work. Taylor operates three New Mexico locations combining Schlotzsky’s and Cinnabon.

The task previously required three hours and now takes roughly five to 10 minutes, the company said. Taylor uploads transaction records and banking data so the software can match cash activity against deposits. Preparing payroll also takes four fewer hours per cycle.

Menu pricing analysis fell from five days to one or two hours, a reduction OpenAI put at 95%. The process combines competitor research with menu prices, sales information and supplier costs to generate recommendations. Taylor checks the output before applying changes.

Scheduling remains an area of potential savings. Taylor estimates improved staffing could eventually release $50,000 to $100,000 annually across the restaurants, rather than describing that amount as money already saved. A manager currently reviews and adjusts the AI-generated schedule for one location before entering it into the scheduling system.
