ByteDance, Tencent and Alibaba reportedly order over $35 billion in Nvidia cards
Three Chinese technology companies reportedly ordered more than 3 million Nvidia graphics cards, but supply constraints could limit deliveries.
ByteDance, Tencent and Alibaba reportedly placed orders for Nvidia graphics cards carrying a combined list value above $35 billion. People familiar with the purchases say the companies requested more than 3 million RTX PRO 5500 cards. The quantities and value remain unconfirmed by the companies.
The cards reportedly cost roughly $11,400 apiece. The reported total represents the potential value of the requested hardware, rather than confirmed shipments or revenue. Nvidia is said to have warned customers that production plans cannot accommodate demand.
Nvidia describes the RTX PRO 5500 as a Blackwell workstation product with 84 GB of GDDR7 memory. Its supported applications include running language models, generating content and processing graphics. The reported purchases come as Chinese technology companies seek computing capacity amid restrictions on access to more advanced American AI chips.
Delivery volumes remain uncertain. People familiar with the discussions say Nvidia has indicated that some partners could receive just 5% to 10% of their requested quantities. The companies have not publicly established a delivery schedule for these orders.
