OpenAI reportedly explores buying security firm Trail of Bits
OpenAI is reportedly discussing an acquisition of Trail of Bits, its existing partner in an effort to repair open-source software vulnerabilities.
OpenAI is reportedly holding preliminary acquisition discussions with cybersecurity firm Trail of Bits. Neither company has publicly confirmed the talks.
The companies already collaborate on Patch the Planet, an initiative announced June 22. It combines OpenAI's tools with security specialists who investigate software weaknesses, check findings and help maintainers prepare fixes.
The program focuses on open-source projects whose code supports other software and services. OpenAI said participating projects include Python, Go and cURL, with engineers helping test repairs and coordinate vulnerability disclosures.
The reported discussions have not produced an announced agreement. Whether they will result in an acquisition remains unresolved.
