Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national employed as an OpenAI engineer, reportedly faces a federal charge involving an alleged attempt to intercept conversations. The 35-year-old reportedly appeared in court on October 13 following his arrest four days earlier.

Prosecutors allege that a recorder was hidden in an executive meeting room and that security personnel later discovered another device in a bag containing Alfozan’s identification. The complaint does not establish what he intended to do with any conversations captured. The allegations remain unproven.

OpenAI said it dismissed an employee after investigating a concealed recorder and contacting federal authorities. It said it had found no indication that customer information, source code or model weights had been improperly accessed or taken. The company said the FBI inquiry remains active and pledged further cooperation.
