Chinese firms reportedly bought over 1 million Nvidia gaming and workstation chips
Chinese technology companies reportedly bought over 1 million Nvidia gaming and workstation chips in 2026 to help address an AI computing shortage.
Chinese technology companies reportedly purchased more than 1 million Nvidia chips designed for gaming and workstations this year to supplement their AI infrastructure. The purchase estimate is attributed to industry sources and remains unconfirmed by Nvidia.
The hardware reportedly includes Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D and RTX Pro 5000. Industry sources estimate that China’s available supply of AI chips in 2026 will fall short of demand, prompting companies to seek additional computing capacity from these products.
Nvidia already markets workstation hardware for AI development and running language models. Its RTX Pro 5000 family includes configurations with 48GB and 72GB of memory, showing that these products serve uses beyond graphics. Those confirmed capabilities do not establish how many units Chinese companies purchased or how they deployed them.
