OpenAI reportedly explores buying cybersecurity firm Trail of Bits
OpenAI is reportedly discussing a purchase of Trail of Bits, an existing partner in its work to find and repair software vulnerabilities.
OpenAI is reportedly holding preliminary acquisition discussions with cybersecurity firm Trail of Bits. People familiar with the matter say negotiations remain underway and may not produce an agreement.
The companies already collaborate on Patch the Planet, a security initiative announced on June 22. OpenAI said the program combines AI tools with specialists who validate vulnerabilities, develop fixes and work directly with open-source maintainers.
That partnership addresses a practical problem with automated security research: finding a suspected flaw does not establish that it is real or repair it. OpenAI said Trail of Bits engineers checked findings before sending them to maintainers, who retained control over fixes and disclosure.
An acquisition remains unconfirmed, and no purchase price has been established publicly. Separately, Trail of Bits said it planned to release additional results and research methods from the existing partnership as coordinated disclosures progressed.,
