OpenAI plans visual ChatGPT ads and expands advertiser measurement tools
OpenAI will test visual ads during ChatGPT image generation in October, alongside expanded measurement partnerships and ad placement checks.
OpenAI announced a visual advertising format for ChatGPT on October 5. The company also expanded tools for measuring campaign results and outlined independent checks on where advertisements appear.
The format will initially appear during image generation for Free and Go users. OpenAI said advertisements will carry labels, stay separate from generated images and have no effect on answers. Integrations with Hightouch, Tealium and LiveRamp will let advertisers supply conversion data through their existing systems.
OpenAI said advertising supports access beyond its subscription business. Its measurement work includes experiments designed to test whether advertisements generate additional purchases. DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science are developing evaluations of placement safeguards using controlled tests without access to private conversations.
The US test is scheduled to begin later in October with a limited advertiser group. OpenAI said it will continue developing advertising formats and measurement capabilities.
