Tesla cuts 2026 capital spending forecast to about $20 billion
Tesla lowered its annual investment forecast from more than $25 billion and said operating cash flow would provide most of the funding.
Tesla reduced its capital spending forecast for 2026 to approximately $20 billion, replacing an earlier estimate above $25 billion. Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja announced the revised outlook during the company’s October 21 earnings call.
Taneja attributed the revision to more efficient investment spending and said Tesla intended to finance most of it with cash generated by operations. The company also secured borrowing capacity totaling $30 billion during the quarter.
The lower forecast comes as Tesla invests in artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous driving. Capital spending reached roughly $4.7 billion during the third quarter, while free cash flow was positive at about $1.5 billion. Tesla did not identify which investment categories would receive less funding.
The new credit arrangements give Tesla additional funding capacity for anticipated investment growth. Taneja said the company did not expect to use those facilities during 2026.
