1Password introduces approved account access for AI agents
1Password's new platform lets supported AI agents sign into accounts after user approval while keeping passwords hidden from the agents.
1Password announced a platform on October 22 that lets AI assistants access accounts with the user's permission. The company says it handles authentication without revealing passwords or temporary verification codes to the agent.
When an assistant encounters a login screen, it requests authorization through 1Password. After approval, the password manager enters the required information directly into the website. Users can disconnect an integration.
The service addresses a practical obstacle for assistants handling errands and other online tasks. Manually completing each login interrupts their work, while putting a password into a conversation exposes that credential to the assistant.
Eligible Individual and Family subscribers pay no additional fee. Accounts hosted in the company's European and Canadian regions are currently excluded, and capabilities differ across integrations.
Connections for Meta's Muse and Grok Bot are rolling out over the coming days. Integrations for Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work, dots and Townie are planned, with additional partners to follow.
