Sega moves to withdraw Shogun 2 remaster after launch complaints

Sega and Creative Assembly are withdrawing the remaster and restoring the original game's availability while investigating quality problems.

Sega and Creative Assembly said on October 15 that they were arranging to withdraw Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition from sale. The companies acknowledged that the release failed to meet player expectations and their quality requirements.

The remaster launched October 13. Players complained about bugs, poor performance and artwork they suspected had undergone AI upscaling. The companies' withdrawal statement did not confirm whether AI was responsible for the criticized visuals.

Complete Edition repackaged the strategy game, originally released in 2011, with its additional content and updates. The original version had been removed from sale ahead of the new release. Sega and Creative Assembly said they were working with storefront operators to make the original available again.

People who purchased Complete Edition will retain access to play it. The companies said they were investigating problems with their development partner and working on improvements, but supplied no date for sales to resume.
