YouTube Music begins labeling songs created primarily with generative AI

YouTube Music is adding player labels for songs with substantial generative AI involvement, using music partners and internal detection tools.

YouTube Music began introducing labels on October 14 to identify songs made primarily with generative AI. YouTube said the change responds to listeners seeking clearer information about how music was created. Its examples include songs whose composition and singing were generated by AI.

The disclosure appears within the music player, and tapping it opens additional information. YouTube said it is working with music partners and using internal detection systems to identify relevant tracks. The approach follows its existing principles for labeling AI content.

The announcement focuses on music with substantial AI involvement, rather than establishing that every use of AI receives a label. YouTube did not provide detection accuracy figures or a date for completing the rollout. It said the music disclosures will also reach the main YouTube app.
