Mistral previews Large 4, with downloadable weights planned for October
Mistral Large 4 is available through a preview API, while the company conducts security testing before its planned October weight release.
Mistral introduced a public preview of Large 4 on October 6, giving the model the nickname Le Chonk. Developers can access it through Mistral Studio's API, with downloadable weights planned before October ends.
The multimodal model has one trillion parameters, with 49 billion active during processing. Mistral says it trained the model using 3,800 Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPUs in its European data centers. The preview runs on the same infrastructure.
Mistral says its evaluations show strong results in cybersecurity, finance and visual understanding. Those performance comparisons are company claims. The planned weight release would let organizations deploy the model themselves and control its operating policies.
Before releasing the weights, Mistral is testing the model with cybersecurity specialists, selected partners and government authorities. The company also plans to publish further architecture information and benchmark results. Large 4 will underpin additional models tailored to particular industries and tasks.
