SpaceX posts $4.4 billion profit as AI becomes its largest revenue source
SpaceX's AI division generated $7.56 billion in quarterly revenue, overtaking connectivity as the company returned to profit.
SpaceX announced a $4.4 billion quarterly profit on October 20, reversing a loss a year earlier. Revenue reached $14.58 billion for the September quarter, an increase of 161%, with artificial intelligence driving much of the growth.
The company's Super Intelligence division generated $7.56 billion in revenue, nearly three times its previous quarter's total. SpaceX attributed the increase to new cloud contracts, its Cursor acquisition and greater use of Grok. The division earned $431 million in operating profit.
AI now brings in more revenue than SpaceX's connectivity division, which includes Starlink. Connectivity remained the larger source of operating profit, contributing $2.37 billion on revenue of $5.25 billion. That distinction shows how satellite internet continues to support the company's expanding AI operations.
Further infrastructure investment is planned. Chief Financial Officer Bret Johnsen said SpaceX expects capital spending of $35 billion to $40 billion in the fourth quarter, compared with about $19.6 billion in the third quarter.
