Tesla unveils redesigned Roadster, with production targeted for 2028
Tesla demonstrated its redesigned Roadster in Texas, showing airborne maneuvers with thrusters, while Elon Musk set a 2028 production target.
Tesla unveiled its redesigned Roadster on October 15 at a SpaceX facility in Texas. The electric sports car demonstrated brief airborne maneuvers using compressed-gas thrusters, alongside a suction system.
Tesla said the car incorporates technology from SpaceX and can reach 60 mph from rest in under one second. Those performance figures are company claims.
The event followed nearly nine years of waiting since Tesla introduced the earlier prototype in 2017. Deliveries were originally scheduled for 2020, but that deadline passed without the vehicle reaching customers.
Musk said production is planned for 2028. Tesla did not announce a final purchase price, leaving customers facing a further wait after the demonstration.
